I'm a heretic!

so, I'm a heretic...

or maybe I am willing to be...

but I guess it depends on perspective

or who is labelling me a heretic.

because Jesus was viewed by many as a heretic (and worse) and he's alright (maybe a little more than alright)

so maybe I want those who would call Jesus a heretic to label me the same...?

...

what if obediently following God in loving others meant being labelled a heretic?

is it worth it?

Its true that Jesus' posture in the face of such accusations should prepare us to be confidently unpopular in the face those who will tend to want to box him in. But who would call 'loving others' heretical?

Shouldn't we be at least a little concerned about whether the church tradition of the last twenty centuries since Christ might call into question what we've made of Him, don't you think? I'd suggest that if you are in obedience to Jesus loving others you should be confident that turning the question of orthodoxy back on those who challenge it will be fruitful for everyone involved. The cream will rise to the top. That kind of thing.

Hi Jon, sorry for the delay in responding - didn't realize there were comments waiting until this morning.

I may have exaggerated more than I should have on this post. I have never been called a heretic (at least not to my face)

And yes, I do believe humbling one's self within the framework of church tradition is necessary - especially when it comes to the question of orthodoxy.

thanks for the comment and for keeping me honest.
